Questions & Answers

Where can I buy or pick up the Geo. Knight DK20A Auto-Release Press locally?
You can place your order online and choose convenient local pickup at either the Lawson Screen & Digital Products corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO, or our Atlanta branch in Marietta, GA. Local pickup can also be coordinated through satellite technical support centers in Phoenix, Orlando, and Des Moines.

Does the Geo. Knight DK20A require an air compressor?
No. The DK20A uses an internal electromagnetic latch mechanism that disengages automatically, providing semi-automatic pop-up performance on standard 120V electricity alone without needing an external air compressor.

What is the advantage of the HOVER feature on the DK20A?
The HOVER mode holds the heated platen suspended just above the lower bed without clamping down. This allows operators to flash-cure DTF powder, gel pre-treated DTG garments, or pre-dry wet inks without contact pressure.

How does the auto-release mechanism protect my garments?
When the countdown timer finishes, the electromagnetic latch releases and gas shocks lift the head open automatically. This prevents garments from over-baking or scorching if an operator is away loading another station or weeding transfers.

What transfers can I apply with the Digital Knight DK20A?
The DK20A handles all standard commercial decorating methods, including Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfers, heat transfer vinyl (HTV), screen-printed transfers, white toner transfers, full dye sublimation, and embroidered patches.

Description

Looking to maximize your custom apparel workflow with a large-format heat press that combines heavy-duty manual pressure with smart automation? The Geo. Knight DK20A Digital Clamshell Heat Press 16" x 20" with Auto Release Pop-Up (Model DK20A) is an industrial-strength, master-sized heat press engineered by Geo. Knight & Co. Providing the perfect balance between high-speed manual throughput and reliable auto-release convenience, this USA-made machine features a high-tech electromagnetic assist lockdown mechanism that automatically pops open the frame the instant your digital timer hits zero.

The primary production advantage of the Digital Knight DK20A lies in its heavy-duty 16" x 20" master heating platen and protective automatic release mechanism. If an operator steps away to prepare another garment or weed transfers, the machine automatically disengages—eliminating scorched items and costly ruined inventory. Opening smoothly via dual gas shocks rather than sudden mechanical springs, it also features a specialized HOVER setting that allows the heating element to suspend directly above the lower bed to safely flash-cure DTF powder or set wet inks without contact pressure. Utilizing patented SuperCoil-Microwinding™ heater technology inside a 3/4" thick Teflon-coated assembly, it guarantees total thermal uniformity up to 500°F with zero cold spots across the entire bed.

Built with an open-access frame that allows operators to easily "dress" garments over the table, this 103 lb commercial workhorse brings maximum output and retail-ready finish quality to high-volume print shops.
