What Is the Vega S17?

The Vega S17 is an all-in-one direct-to-film production system engineered in South Korea and supported in the United States by DTF Station and Lawson Workhorse Group. Instead of connecting a separate DTF printer, powder shaker & curing oven, cutter, and collection area, the Vega S17 integrates those stages into a stacked, self-contained unit.

You send artwork from your RIP software, and the system produces finished, cut, and squared DTF sheets from the front output area. It is designed for apparel decorators, print shops, and transfer producers that want a streamlined workflow without dedicating a long production line to DTF.

Workflow at a Glance

Prepare your artwork and send it to the Vega S17. From there, the system handles printing, powder application, curing, cutting, and stacking automatically inside one machine.

  • Prepare artwork in NeoStampa RIP software and send the job to the Vega S17
  • The Vega S17 prints the CMYK and white ink layers automatically
  • TPU adhesive powder is applied automatically from the sealed cartridge
  • The film moves through the enclosed four-zone curing bed at the preset 160°C (320°F) cure temperature
  • Finished sheets are cut inline in 0.8 seconds and stacked automatically—up to 100 sheets
  • Collect the finished, cut, and squared DTF sheets from the front output area

What Makes the Vega S17 Different

Sealed Powder System

The Vega S17 uses a sealed 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) TPU hot-melt adhesive powder cartridge. A rotating paddle meters powder onto the printed film while excess powder is contained inside the machine, reducing open-powder handling and cleanup.

One cartridge can cover approximately one 100 m (328 ft) film roll, which is the industry standard.

Four-Zone PID-Controlled Curing

After powder application, transfers move through an enclosed conveyor bed with four independently controlled heater zones. The system uses PID-controlled curing to maintain a default cure temperature of 160°C (320°F) automatically.

PID stands for Proportional-Integral-Derivative. It is a closed-loop temperature-control method that continuously compares the measured heater temperature with the target temperature and adjusts heater output to stay on target. The proportional response corrects immediate temperature differences, the integral response corrects lingering differences over time, and the derivative response helps reduce temperature overshoot.

In practical terms, PID control helps the Vega S17 hold a stable curing temperature without requiring the operator to manually adjust heat settings. The operator does not set a cure temperature; the system uses its preset 160°C (320°F) cure profile automatically.

Inline Cutter & Stacker

An automatic shuttle cutter trims finished sheets in 0.8 seconds. Cut lengths can be set from 25 to 50 cm (10 to 19.7 inches), and the removable integrated stacker collects up to 100 cut sheets for unattended output.

Finished transfers are sized for use with standard 40.6 cm × 50.8 cm (16″ × 20″) heat presses, making the Vega S17 a practical front end for an apparel-decoration workflow.

The stacker can be removed for longer roll-to-roll jobs.

Three-Stage Filtration

The built-in filtration system includes a de-mist filter, medium filter, and combined HEPA and activated-carbon filter. It is designed to capture fumes and fine adhesive particles internally, without requiring external ductwork or wall penetrations.

Automated Maintenance

To help protect white ink during idle periods, the system performs regular white-ink circulation and scheduled printhead cleaning. If unused for more than six hours, the printheads cap into a dedicated solution bath to help prevent drying.

RIP + Touchscreen Control

NeoStampa RIP software handles file preparation and print-queue management. Machine settings, maintenance routines, and diagnostic feedback are managed through the onboard tilt touchscreen.

Modular DTF vs. Vega S17

A modular setup can make sense for high-volume shops that already own compatible equipment or need continuous roll-to-roll production. The Vega S17 is designed for shops that prioritize compactness, simplified powder handling, integrated finishing, and a smaller operational footprint.

Feature Typical Modular Setup DTF Station Vega S17
Layout Printer, shaker, and oven arranged across the production floor Vertical stacked design: 170.4 cm × 79.8 cm (67.1″ W × 31.4″ D)
Powder handling Often involves open trays or manual powder handling Sealed cartridge with automatic paddle metering
Curing Separate shaker/dryer with operator-adjusted settings Four-zone enclosed PID-controlled curing bed
Output Continuous web, often requiring manual cutting Inline cut sheets with automatic stacking up to 100 sheets
Ventilation May require external exhaust or dedicated ventilation Built-in three-stage filtration; no external ducting required
Noise Varies by printer, shaker, and dryer configuration 67 dB(A) or less
Best fit High-volume continuous production or existing modular workflows Compact shops, in-house DTF, reduced powder handling, cut-sheet output

Who Should Buy the Vega S17?

Best fit

Choose Vega S17 if you want:

  • A compact DTF system for a limited production area
  • Less open powder handling and cleanup
  • Cut-sheet output rather than continuous roll finishing
  • Automated curing, cutting, and stacking
  • An in-house DTF workflow without external ducting
  • Consistent results across operators and shifts
Consider modular instead

Consider modular DTF if you need:

  • Very high-volume continuous roll-to-roll production
  • A wider print width than 39.4 cm (15.5 inches)
  • Maximum flexibility to upgrade individual components
  • An existing printer, powder shaker, or dryer you want to retain
  • A production layout with separate stations and operators

Vega S17 FAQ

Is a 39.4 cm (15.5-inch) image width enough for garment decoration?

Yes. A 39.4 cm × 48.3 cm (15.5″ × 19″) printable area covers most adult full-front and back graphics, chest logos, sleeve prints, and gang sheets designed for 40.6 cm × 50.8 cm (16″ × 20″) heat presses.

What power does it need?

The Vega S17 runs on standard U.S. 120 V, 50/60 Hz power and uses two standard 120 V plugs. The print section draws up to 4 A (400 W), and the finishing section draws up to 11.2 A (1,250 W), for a combined maximum draw of about 15 A.

Because that exceeds what one standard 15 A circuit should carry, plug the two sections into two separate outlets on separate circuits. Confirm the final circuit requirements with Lawson before installation.

How fast is the Vega S17?

Output depends on sheet length, ink coverage, white-ink density, and curing requirements.

Does the Vega S17 require external ventilation?

The Vega S17 includes built-in three-stage filtration and is designed to operate without external ducting. However, shops should still confirm local ventilation, electrical, and workplace-safety requirements before installation.

Does it require special software?

The system uses NeoStampa RIP software for artwork preparation and print-queue management. Machine settings, maintenance, and diagnostics are handled through the onboard tilt touchscreen.

How often do the filters need replacement?

Filter life depends on production volume and average ink coverage. The touchscreen monitors usage and prompts operators when maintenance or filter-tray replacement is needed.

Can it run roll-to-roll?

Yes. The integrated stacker can be removed for longer roll-to-roll jobs, while the standard configuration produces cut and stacked sheets.
