Screen Printing Film Positives & Vellum FAQ
What is the difference between Waterproof and Non-Waterproof inkjet film?
Water-resistant (Waterproof) film has a special "microporous" coating that grabs the ink and prevents it from smearing or running. This is essential for high-detail work. Non-waterproof (Economy) film is better suited for dye-based inks and simpler graphics.
Can I use vellum paper for high-detail halftone printing?
While Laser Vellum is excellent for simple text and spot colors, it is not transparent enough for fine halftones. For high-detail work, an Inkjet Transparency Film is recommended for better UV light transmission.
How do I achieve the darkest black on my film positives?
To get a "black out" effect, you need high UV opacity. Using a dedicated Film Positive Printer with specialized RIP software allows you to lay down more ink, ensuring your film is opaque enough to block the light during exposure.
